Once a Mountaineer, Always a Mountaineer

“Donor support is essential to the recent success of West Virginia athletics. To attain the level of success that our alumni and fans deserve, and expect, it is necessary to pay coaches at a high-level and to provide first-class facilities, like Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. This will help WVU coaches recruit and train the very best student-athletes.”
- Natalie Cocchi, four-year starter and team captain on WVU's Elite 8
team
“WVU is a unique institution where athletic competition is a large voice and billboard for West Virginia University. Financial stability and strong fan support brings pride among the University's many alumni and friends. We felt the support of Mountaineers everywhere in our Sweet 16 run. From their words of encouragement, I am truly proud to forever be a Mountaineer.”
- Jamie Smalligan, center on WVU's 2008 NCAA "Sweet 16" team
"Not only did I gain a college education, but I learned responsibility and maturity on a campus where people genuinely cared about me. Football made me a man, and it's also made me a West Virginian."
- Darryl Talley, former All-Pro linebacker "My basketball memories from WVU are incredible, but I also think very highly of my experience in the business school. I was well prepared to succeed on the professional level when I graduated."
- Rosemary Kosiorek, former Women's Basketball All-American
"What success I've had in business comes directly from the discipline and work ethic I got from Mountaineer football, and the chance that gave me to attend college. I'm proud that my degree says West Virginia University. In the business world, that means something."
- Kevin Koken, starting center on 1989 Fiesta Bowl team
"What I learned, through basketball and in the classroom, has helped me in life every day since."
- Brent Solheim, starting forward on 1998 NCAA "Sweet 16" team
"When I was competing as a gymnast/pole vaulter for WVU I always had the utmost respect and appreciation for the fans. They continued to support me throughout my career at West Virginia University, and my success would not have been as much fun without them there.
It was only after working at the Mountaineer Athletic Club that I realized not only were they great fans, but they were a necessity. Without the donations of our fans and alumni, WVU Athletics would not have had the success we've had in the past, nor would we have the promising future ahead of us as it continues. They've given us some of the best facilities in the country, and have allowed us opportunities of a lifetime. My thanks go out to every individual fan and donor of the WVU Athletic Department. They've given me an experience of which only some can dream."
- Kristin Quackenbush-DiBartolomeo, WVU Gymnastics and Women's Track & Field All-American
